What is ICEspresso Chat

ICEspresso Chat (ICEspresso for short) is a Javascript framework to help rapidly developing web application with functionality of:

chat room (demo: traditional, map-based)
instant messaging
user status updating (demo: friends' status)
online gaming (demo: map-based)

For running web service, ICEspresso is easy to integrate with the existing relationship of member. For example, every named user may get his/her friend list in a social network or online community site. ICEspresso can enable chatting service to the site without heavy Javascript programming. That is the goal of ICEspresso.

ICEspresso hides the details of real-time messaging programming and leverages the high performance push technology, provides straight forward Javascript methods for developing web applications.

Furthermore, ICEspresso includes server side daemons (ICEspresso service) for handling tasks such as:

log for user connection
log for chatting message
presence of user status

ICEspresso uses a special mechanism to persistently track users' status. For web application, the users' status are maintained by ICEspresso service, they are transparent and persistent even users jump between different web pages under the ICEspresso application.

How ICEspresso Chat Works

ICEspresso is roasted with (based on) the iPush Javascript wrapper API (pjax.js) which uses a Flash agent (pjax.swf) to communicate with push engine (iPush Server).

Besides the client side Javascript library, for providing a comprehensive chatting framework and easy-to-adopt environment, ICEspresso team also implemented server side daemons and runs them on the free push platform hosting site - Push4Free.com (sponsored by ICE Technology Corp.)

In other words, the complete ICEspresso offering is a combination of:

client side components as a Javascript library
server side components as a service

Developer should only concentrate on programming with the client side Javascript library and leave the server side aside.
